History

The Golden Ball is a 16th Century Inn situated on the Banks of the River Lune,
half way between Lancaster and Morecambe. We are only a 10 minute taxi ride
away from the city centre, but we are surrounded by green fields with a wonderful
view across the river looking southwards and eastwards towards the Trough of
Bowland.
The river has a large wildfowl population which varies throughout the year.
In summer we have a free display given by the many water skiers and jet skiers
that visit us. Should your interest be the wildlife on the marshes and you feel that
the jet skis are causing an environmental problem then, in the
interests of impartiality, we have provided a link -
              http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/lunelimit/
where you can sign a petition to "have a speed limit imposed on the Lune to prevent further
damage to the wildlife and curtail noise pollution."
Just behind our car park there is the Riverside caravan park which is available
for touring caravans and also the renting of static caravans.
The Management of the Golden Ball would like to point out that the caravan site is
in no way connected or affiliated to the caravan park and that the inclusion of a link
to their web site does not constitute a recommendation.
The river is tidal by nature and during the full moon periods in winter we have
high tides that sometimes cover the road and cut the pub off for a couple of hours.
Most high tides only cover the road at the front of the pub, leaving the entrance
to the car park clear for customers to come and go as they please.
Tide tables are available from the website Admiralty Easytide.
